Backstory Behind the Book:
A few weeks before my 18th birthday, my high school teacher gave me and my classmates a project to purchase a car based on our career choice. Many of my classmates chose careers like doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, etc., and she was fine with that.
It has been my goal to be a CEO ever since I was 10 when the founder of The Vermont Teddy Bear Company, John Sortino, taught me what a CEO does. So, when it was my turn to choose a career, I confidently told my teacher I’m going to be a CEO. I thought I’d be welcomed with a warm embrace like my peers, but I wasn’t. She said to me, “Choose something more realistic.” That goal has always felt realistic to me, so I confidently replied, “It is realistic.”
Every day when my parents pick my brother and me up from school, they ask us about “our one good thing,” something they’ve done since we were in kindergarten.
When I got in the car, I told my dad, who is actually an author and the CEO of a multimedia marketing/publishing company, about the situation that happened. To which he smiled and asked, “Well, what career did you choose?” To which I proudly told him, “Dad, a CEO!”.
A couple of days later, after Dad met with the school’s leadership team, he came back to me and suggested we write about my experience to help encourage people to never give up on their dreams no matter what. And that’s what we did. We co-wrote, I am a CEO. Realistic CEO, the story about Tony (my middle name is Anthony), a boy with a big dream of being a CEO!

Mychal Connolly Jr., known affectionately as Mikey, first ventured into the entrepreneurial world by co-authoring a motivational book titled "I am a CEO. Realistic CEO." with his father. This book, which came after a high school teacher claimed during a class project that him becoming a CEO was unrealistic, aims to inspire people to chase their dreams, no matter the odds.
